St Joan of Arc School traces its roots to New Orleans, Louisiana. This institution, located at 919 Cambronne Street, was founded in 1893 by Mother Austin, General of the Sisters of the Holy Family. Its primary goal was to teach colored children who were being marginalized in the Carrollton region. The school moved to a new building in 1909. In 1912, the Josephite Fathers bought the church property located on Cambronne Street, including the rectory and school for the colored congregation. The mission was named St. Dominic.
