Department of Public Safety and Inspections

The Building and Inspections Division of the Department of Public Safety and Inspections administers design of all construction, recreational tramways, amusement, and related communities. The mission of the OPSI is the safety and design of, construction, inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of tramways, elevators, buildings, and amusement devices. OPSI also administers the provisions of the Massachusetts Building Code 780CMR. The Public Safety and Inspections office ensures that there is safe ingress and exit for all persons with disabilities in new and existing buildings through inspections, licensing, and compliance. OPSI issues certificates of competency, registration, and approval to people whom meet minimum standards required in many areas. OPSI also approves continuing education for licensed individuals.
