Adapted from the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR) is a 1991 group established by other addictions groups to organize the formation of a group to help in Licensing of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. Most of us in MOAR are precisely people who have recovered from addiction. We support the continuum of care, we are mostly in the peer support services, and recovering people, families, friends, and allies will join MOAR to raise awareness about recovery from addiction and alcoholism. Our goal is to achieve a world where addiction is considered a serious public health problem, and recovery is valued and celebrated in all communities. We strive to be an advocate for everyone who seeks to recover but will do the work to alleviate the inequalities and struggles that many people and groups face when trying to receive treatment services. The history of healthcare in America has been filled with systemic racism, bias, and prejudice. The team will work together to ensure that there is a recovery option, and we will work to change the system so that the marginalized and underserved have their voices heard. (MOAR, 2021)
