The Artists' Group of Charlestown (AGC) started in 1996 after several artists resolved to advance the arts in Charlestown. AGC's ARTeria started at Terminal Street, a shared studio. AGC organized an open studio fundraising event in December 1996. To increase ARTeria's capacity to hold more events, AGC set up an event called Art in the Park in 1997 in a larger outdoor space. The new Fundraising Campaign for AGC's ARTeria will be launched in 2021. The ARTeria was insufficiently sized to serve the AGC's vast plan. AGC's milestone fundraising campaign, "Savoring the Arts," started in 2002 and raised over $20,000. AGC built a new facility at 523 Medford Street with the money raised. The new building belongs to the Stove Factory and was constructed during the 19th century. StoveFactory Studios & Gallery is a three-story building that will soon contain 24 studios and a 950-square-foot gallery. AGC became a non-profit company (501c3) in 2003. AGC is a nonprofit company (501c3) that relies on grants and generous donations and the hard work of its members to achieve the mission. The primary goal of the AGC is to enhance the quality of their cultural programming in the community. AGC has held annual events like Art in the Park and Open Studios since inception. Temporary shows, group shows, and AGC or artist-sponsored events also occur regularly. The AGC-sponsored shows and events are open to the public, free of charge. Boston Magazine published an article on April 4, 2019. AGC wants individuals or community institutions to have events at StoveFactory Gallery beyond their 12 annual events. A rental agreement generates income for AGC. StoveFactory Studios & Gallery has become a valuable part of agencies and institutions in Charlestown. The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Peace Gallery and Charlestown Coalition collaborated to bring violence and substance abuse survivors to StoveFactory Gallery. WCVB TV Channel 5 Chronicle and BNN TV Here. AGC has worked for years with the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce and collaborates with ArtScope Magazine to promote their events. The AGC served the Charlestown Community in 2020, despite canceling many in-person events during a tough pandemic year. The AGC raised $7,000 during the pandemic. AGC thanks its members and the Charlestown community for their generosity. The Charlestown Patriot-Bridge published an article on September 9, 2020. The City of Boston's Mayor's Office of Arts & Culture awarded AGC a COVID-19 relief grant.
