What does an injury cost by body part?

Pick how serious the injury is. Each point shows the average medical bill for that body part at that severity; bigger point = costlier injury. Tap a point to compare it with the average workers’ comp claim for the same body part, which also pays lost wages. Then run the calculator for your own number.

About this Personal Injury Settlement Calculator

This calculator uses the multiplier method, the starting point most insurance adjusters and personal injury lawyers use. It adds your financial losses (medical bills and lost wages) to a pain-and-suffering figure, which is those losses multiplied by a factor set by how serious the injury is: 1.5 to 2 times for minor injuries, up to 4 to 5 times for catastrophic ones. The type of accident adjusts the result, and it is then reduced by your share of fault under Maryland law.

Maryland rules this calculator applies

Fault rule
Contributory negligence. One of the strictest rules in the country: if you were even 1% at fault, you may recover nothing. A lawyer matters more here than anywhere.
Deadline to file
You generally have 3 years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury claim in Maryland. Claims against a government body usually need formal notice much sooner, and medical malpractice and wrongful death claims can have their own deadlines.

General information about Maryland law, not legal advice, and the estimate is not a guarantee of any outcome. A lawyer can tell you how these rules apply to your case.

Frequently asked questions

10 questions
How does the Annapolis personal injury settlement calculator work?
It estimates economic damages (medical bills + lost wages) plus pain and suffering using a multiplier of 1.5 to 5, adjusted for accident type and fault.
How accurate is a personal injury settlement calculator?
It provides a general estimate. Actual settlements depend on specific case details, legal representation, and negotiations.
What factors increase a personal injury settlement in Maryland?
Higher medical costs, severe injuries, and clear fault of the other party can increase settlements. Maryland's contributory negligence rule may affect recovery.
How is pain and suffering calculated in Annapolis?
Pain and suffering are estimated using a multiplier (1.5 to 5) applied to medical costs, based on injury severity.
What is the statute of limitations for personal injury in Maryland?
You have 3 years from the injury date to file a general negligence claim. Different rules apply for government claims and medical malpractice.
Should I accept the insurer's first settlement offer?
Initial offers are often low. Consider consulting a lawyer before accepting to ensure fair compensation.
How long do personal injury settlements take in Annapolis?
Settlement timelines vary widely, from months to years, depending on case complexity, negotiations, and court schedules.
What medical documentation is important for my case?
Keep all medical records, bills, and treatment plans. Detailed documentation supports your claim for damages.
How do lawyer fees affect my net settlement amount?
Lawyers typically take 33% to 40% of the settlement as a contingency fee, reducing your net amount.
Does Annapolis have specific factors affecting settlements?
Local factors like traffic patterns and cost of living may influence case details but not settlement calculations directly.
