Maryland: One of the strictest rules in the country: if you were even 1% at fault, you may recover nothing. A lawyer matters more here than anywhere.

This calculator uses the multiplier method, the starting point most insurance adjusters and personal injury lawyers use. It adds your financial losses (medical bills and lost wages) to a pain-and-suffering figure, which is those losses multiplied by a factor set by how serious the injury is: 1.5 to 2 times for minor injuries, up to 4 to 5 times for catastrophic ones. The type of accident adjusts the result, and it is then reduced by your share of fault under Maryland law.
