Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters Detroit was established as a small family business in 2009. The idea was to unite people through desserts and music. Steph, a musician, performed every night for many hours, and my mother and I worked behind the counter washing dishes and serving coffee and cheesecakes. In the beginning, I was only 13, but I grew attached to coffee. I felt as though we could apply the same attention to our coffee program, as well as do and be more keen on the pastry side. In the beginning, I started roasting coffee with a tiny rotisserie oven I had converted into a drum roaster (it was my life's savings at the time). The first roaster I used was a small rotisserie converted into a drum. It cost me my entire life savings. We received a lot of positive feedback, and I learned a lot. This prompted me to purchase a larger, professional roaster, which we still use. Coffee was the main focus of the business at the time. (We also added "Coffee Roasters" to our name.) As the years went by, I have refined and improved my skills, raised my standards, earned awards for coffee and our roasting operation, hired some of the best baristas from around the country, and brought that focus down to the customer. In areas I'm excited about, we have opened new stores. Our goal is to create beautiful environments that match the products and the roasting operations we are trying to make and to create memorable experiences. A good business is a reflection of the people who work behind the scenes. The company should evolve and grow as the people around it do. The company grows as the team improves. The DOCR company is a reflection of its people. Throughout our growth and evolution, our core beliefs and values have remained the same.
