Overview of K-1 Visa Process The K-1 Visa is designed for foreign nationals planning to marry a U.S. Citizen within 90 days of entering the U.S. The process starts when a U.S. Citizen files Form I-129F with the USCIS. If the petition is approved, it is sent to the National Visa Center and then to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the foreign national's home country.
