About Big Muddy Adventures
The origins of Big Muddy Adventures date back to 2002. Headquartered in St. Louis, we are the first outfitter/guiding service to provide access to the Middle Mississippi River and the Lower Missouri River. Our adventure company has successfully outfitted and guided clients worldwide. BMA offers thousands of canoes and kayaks, as well as our own handicraft, the Quapaw canoes.
Question number one: "Is it safe?" Yes, it is safe. (!) (!) Anyone lacking advanced paddling skills should not attempt to self-guide a trip.
Unfortunately, the Mississippi River and Missouri River are the most dangerous among their sizes, fluctuating water levels, and presence of various navigation hazards. The size of the rivers and their water level, which fluctuates from low to high along with various navigational hazards, makes them dangerous. Due to the changing water conditions and weather, they are constantly dynamic. The risk is worth it when completed with the right boats, equipment, and knowledge. Risk is deliberately measured and communication is clear. Safety is paramount.
BMA has a lot of experience guiding and outfitting on the Mississippi River and Missouri River. BMA leads the evolution of the paddling techniques necessary for safe paddling down the Great Rivers. We have acquired a lot of knowledge from experience, and both guides and staff follow the Safety First Policy. Safety is the top priority, and all decisions are made with safety in mind. A well-functioning system, from the initial planning to the final takeout, is in place. Every trip is tailored to the paddling client and the popular condition.
