DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU AND THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR INSPECTIONS!! We purchased our home in October 2022 and hired Jim Chapel to inspect our home prior to purchasing. During the inspection, he informed us that his moisture reader was reading high in one area in the crawl space. My realtor and I expressed deep concern and he assured us it was nothing to worry about and was caused by the heavy rain that day/days prior. I continued to tell him that mold is a deal breaker for me and that I was very worried. He again assured me it was nothing to worry about. During his inspection review with us he also noted that there were no smoke detectors on the first floor of the home. We had to point out to him that just 5 feet from where we were all standing, there was in fact a smoke detector on the first floor. We did some renovations on the home prior to moving in. During this time, we noticed the sink base cabinet and the cabinet next to it had been shoddily repaired. I’ve attached photos. Clearly, there is mold and the seller of our home deliberately covered it up with some plywood hoping no one would notice. Luckily for him, we had South Carolina’s worst inspector and it was missed. Upon completion of moving in to the home, we decided to have our air ducts cleaned. There was a lot of dirt around vents after renovating. As soon as the technician stepped into the home, he pointed out mold on our vent covers. We walked around and looked at each vent from the ground and found that more than 50% of our vents had mold ON them. And this was all visible from the ground. Incredibly shocked and disgusted, I reached out to Frank Blas to inform him of my disappointment with this inspector/inspection. He refused to acknowledge any wrong doing and said because I didn’t pay an additional $350 for an AIR quality test (a test I had no idea existed) that they aren’t liable. I have pointed out to Frank multiple times that this should have been noted on the visual inspection because the mold was visible. Of course, every time I remind him that the mold was visible therefore i paid to be notified of it, he stops replying. Zero accountability. Zero apology. Nothing. Despite all of this, I never asked for anything other than accountability and maybe an apology from Jim, Frank or Continental Inspections for putting my family at risk. Months later, my family is very sick again and I just found out I am pregnant. The fear and anxiety of what else could be hiding in our walls keeps me up at night. I decided to request Continental Inspections to perform the air quality test for us in our home as it is quite literally the least they could do. Frank is refusing and still blaming this on me for not initially purchasing an additional test that I did not know existed. He continues to refuse to acknowledge that the mold in our home was visible to the naked eye and should have been documented during the initial inspection. I’ve attached screenshots of all of our emails regarding these issues as proof. Save your time and health and STAY FAR AWAY from this poor excuse of a company.
