Tarheel Challenge Academy

Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy is a residential quasi-military style program for at-risk teenagers who have dropped out or are not attending school due to being expelled, this includes individuals who may have dropped out or will be expelled. The students must be 16-18 years old by the time the class starts. The North Carolina National Guard sponsors this program and is part of the National Guard Youth Challenge Program. There are 40 locations across the country and Puerto Rico where youths can apply for the program. The purpose of the youth program is to give qualified cadets an opportunity. Through this program, North Carolina expellees, dropouts, or potential dropouts get a safe learning environment. The training is designed to help every cadet be successful in the program and beyond. The Youth Challenge program is funded by the federal and state government, so cadets do incur tuition costs for the ChalleNGe program.
