How this Las Vegas solar cost calculator works

This calculator sizes a solar system from your electricity use. Your monthly bill, divided by the average Nevada electricity price, gives your yearly use; Nevada's sunshine (1,753 kWh per kW of panels a year) then gives the system size that covers it, adjusted for roof direction and shade. The installed price is that size multiplied by the price per watt homeowners in Nevada pay installers. Payback compares that price with what the panels save at Nevada power prices, assuming prices rise 3% a year.

Nevada numbers this calculator uses

Installed price
$2.01–$2.71 per watt in Nevada (typical $2.36), before rebates. A typical 6 kW home system costs $12,100–$16,300.
Sunshine
1,753 kWh of electricity per kW of panels a year in Nevada.
Electricity price
About 13.5¢ per kWh, the average residential price in Nevada.
Selling power back
Power you send to the grid earns less than the price you pay for it (net billing or avoided-cost credits), so using your solar power at home is worth more.
Rebates and tax credits
The 30% federal tax credit for buying solar ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025. Leases and power purchase agreements can still carry a federal credit through the installer for systems in service by the end of 2027.

An estimate, not a quote. Roof size and pitch, shading, equipment, permits and the installer all change the final price; installers confirm it after a site visit. Frequently asked questions

7 questions
Are solar panels worth it in Nevada?
With Nevada's electricity at 13.5 cents per kWh, solar can be worth it, especially if you use most power at home, as grid credits are less valuable.
How many solar panels do I need for my home?
The number of panels depends on your energy use, roof direction, and shading. A typical 6 kW system might need about 18-24 panels.
What is the payback period for solar panels in Nevada?
Payback periods vary, but many Nevada homeowners see returns in 10-15 years, depending on system cost, energy use, and incentives.
Can I sell power back to the grid in Las Vegas?
Yes, but power sent to the grid earns less than what you pay for it, so using solar power at home is more valuable.
Are there solar rebates or tax credits in Nevada for 2026?
The 30% federal tax credit ended for systems installed after 2025. Leases and PPAs may still qualify for credits through 2027.
How does roof direction affect solar panel efficiency?
South-facing roofs are optimal, needing fewer panels. East or west roofs need about 15% more panels, while north-facing roofs are generally not recommended.
How do electric cars impact solar panel needs?
Charging an electric car at home adds about 2,700 kWh of annual electricity use, potentially requiring additional solar panels to cover this demand.
