Anthony O. James is the sole proprietor of Anthony O. James Architect. He has over 30 years experience in historic preservation and architectural design. He worked with non-profits, government preservation agencies and private architectural firms for a variety of projects. Anthony is a specialist in historic building restoration, respectful renovation and traditional additions. Not only are there significant areas of expertise in restoration and renovation, but also residential and commercial work, from small-scale projects to new homes, churches and other commercial endeavors. Anthony is also an expert in history research and writing. He has prepared reports on historic buildings and built histories. This includes the preparation of research reports for National Register eligibility determination. Anthony has also worked with master planning, including campus master plans as well as the design of residential communities. Anthony is a supporter of traditional contemporary architecture and has written a paper about that topic. The paper is linked below. It explains his belief that modern buildings can draw on the lessons of the past while still embracing the spirit and values of the present. It also applies to adding to an older building. This makes sense because it is possible to relate to earlier works in a complementing, not contrasting way.
