Larry Brown established Center Shot Archers in 2008, Brooklyn, as an African American trailblazer in archery and coaching. First African American woman’s archery coach at Columbia University. Coach Brown realized the unique ability of inner-city New York youth to excel in archery in 2004 when he taught archery in schools. Many of these students demonstrated extraordinary talent and were in need of a platform to showcase their abilities. Center Shot Archers were founded as a result. Center Shot Archers concentrates on African American youth and Latino youth as we offer quality coaching and practice. However, we live by the principle that every student should be treated fairly and welcomed into the program. We are a multicultural, multiracial and mixed-gender club. Center Shot Archers have distinguished themselves on the American archery circuit by applying Coach Brown’s three principles of perseverance, patience, and focus. Our students are passionate about the sport and love to shoot. Many of our students have Olympic aspirations and are working diligently to achieve them. The program was created to be appropriate for both recreational archers and those who harbor competitive dreams. We have won at all levels and consistently finished in the top three in national and regional tournaments.

The reviews for Crown Heights' Center Shot Archers are overwhelmingly positive. Coach Brown and Roberta create a peaceful and positive learning atmosphere, and the lessons are budget-friendly. Many students are grateful for how any beginner can become adept with the instructions and welcoming environment. Both coaches' energy and expertise have been a source of confidence for new and seasoned archers. They are also supportive of the archery family and have helped motivate me to keep practicing. Most students noted great progress in their shooting ability and felt a sense of community from the lessons. Majority recommend this class as a positive way to learn archery.
