Gagosian was established by Larry Gagosian in Los Angeles in 1980. The company is a leading global gallery that specializes in modern and contemporary art. The gallery has a bookshop in New York City and London known as Gagosian Shop and it specializes in selling limited items like books, posters and art editions and also apparels and Leica cameras. Gagosian plans and organizes events and programming with artists as part of their extended cultural program. These include exhibition tours and performances and film screenings. Gagosian has been advising and working with artists to ensure the legacy of their works from the beginning part of its operation. In 2018, the gallery launched a program called Building a Legacy Program that brings together studio employees and artists with specialists in the fields of artist estates and nonprofit foundations. Gagosian’s gallery spaces have been designed by globally renowned architects like Richard Gluckman, Richard Meier, and Jean Nouvel as well as Selldorf Architects. Johnen Saville is a prominent mordern artist known for her artwork on human body paintings, Richard Serra for the monumentalist sculptures and drawings and also the reimagination of Roy Lichtenstein temporary mural Greene Street Mural.
