The Warehouse Studios

The Warehouse Studios is situated at 1800 John, Findlay Street and John Street crossroads, a few blocks away from Findlay Market. P. Goldsmith's Sons Co was founded by Philip Goldsmith in 1894 and was the manufacturing company for sporting goods including Baseball gloves. Goldsmith was among the first people to become entrepreneurs in vision of the baseball business. The tenants at our location use it for their studios and makerspaces, as well as for art galleries. Goldsmith arrived in the U.S.A at the age of 17 in 1861 from Austria with a few cents in his pocket. P.Goldsmith & Co started in 1875 and was making baseballs by hand. Rubber core was hand-wrapped, and a leather cover was sewn over it. A machine was developed that automated the stitching of baseballs. P.Goldsmith & Co. attracted huge followings by 1885. Philip Goldsmith died in 1894, and his firm continued to grow. Philip went on a family vacation in Wisconsin and drowned. Hugo was one of his sons who was so brilliant in the businesses that P. Goldsmith's Sons Co made more than 700 products. Sports products like baseball, boxing, and tennis were introduced by the firm under his guidance. The company grew and stopped its notorious volatile businesses. Hugo generated a lot of patents, and he had an impact on the technology of numerous sports.
