Sonya Fleck identified the gap between her students' performance in class and their test scores while teaching high school chemistry for one year. She started to observe the disparity while grading and realized there was a problem. Sonya became interested in the ACT after doing some research. Sonya is a scientist, so she dedicates herself to investigating problems. Sonya wanted to figure out why the students were having trouble with ACT exams and what she could do to help. She wanted to ensure that they had the skills and knowledge to pass the exam. Sonya began her research by discussing her observations with her colleagues at school. Sonya had identified a problem with her students, so she asked for research assistance from the school's faculty members. Together, they worked to create the first ACT Summer Class, which they hoped would help the students succeed.
