Stax Music Academy

Stax Music Academy, a registered nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, harnesses Stax Records’ soulful musical traditions and Memphis soul and rhythm  to build future leaders in the global arts and entertainment industry. Stax Music Academy (SMA) is strategically positioned along with Stax Museum of American Soul Music near the legendary studio where Stax Records produced hits in the 1960s and 70s. We nurture the next generation of Soulful music. SMA was founded in 1970 as a summer music camp under a different name. Furthermore, we offer invaluable musical instruction and life skills for those youth in the racially and economically diverse Greater Soulsville area of Memphis who cannot afford private instruction, lessons, and instruments.
