Our team at Brown, Christie & Green is dedicated to helping victims and their families who have suffered due to medical malpractice and negligence in a nursing home setting. As our elderly relatives advance in age, the need to move them to a nursing home is frequent. It is a hard choice to make, but nursing homes provide several older people with a standard of living that they would not get anywhere else. We entrust nursing homes with the safety and happiness of our family, hoping that they will show the same love and kindness that we would give. This is not often the case. Nursing home negligence and abuse are true and constant issues. Furthermore, as the number of adults in nursing homes approaches 3 million, it is projected that 40% of the population will require nursing home care at some point, sometimes as a long-term resident, a temporary resident for rehabilitation, or any other reason. This figure is only expected to increase as the population becomes older. Although many nursing home residents receive excellent care, a significant number do not receive adequate care or affection. Based on a congressional study released in 2017, one-third of all nursing home residents had experienced neglect or abuse in only a two-year period. The report admits that these are based on officially reported cases. Considering some nursing home abuse victims usually do not report abuse, this figure may be even more significant. In the United States, there are more than 16,000 officially licensed nursing homes. This figure also includes cases where nursing home staff neglected and/or abused their patients in the facility.
