Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club, an AKC Member Club, offers dog training in El Paso. Training is available for all levels of dog owners. Classes for all levels of experience are available from Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club. Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club features many activities for their members to take part in. The AKC allows dogs of mixed breed to compete in competition events as well as at their trials. The American Kennel Club encourages dogs of mixed breeds to participate in Companion Dog events, which are for Obedience Rally and Agility Trials. Canine Partners, a program of the American Kennel Club, allows mixed breed dogs to be able to participate in Companion Dog events. Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club strives to support the training judges, conduct classes for training dogs and handlers, hold obedience trials and agility trials and track tests as per the American Kennel Club rules, and promote good sportsmanship and cooperation among all the members who are involved in training dogs. The History of Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club RGODC was founded in 1949 by W.H. Bowen. RGODC held its first trial in the El Paso County Coliseum on 11 November 1951. The Bowen founder's Trophy was awarded to the top scoring dog at obedience club trials. RGODC was involved in community service. Their CDX dogs collected money for the March of Dimes at El Paso International Airport. The club gave a Guide Dog to the Guide Dog for the Blind, Inc. in 1956... RGODC bought its clubhouse at 175 Barker Rd. in 1962. In each year except for 1962, RGODC held obedience trials. RGODC is also a licensed club to hold agility trials, tracking tests, and rally trials. RGODC, an AKC club member club, holds two obedience and rally trials each year and at most two agility trials.
