The European (EU) Digital COVID Cert’s primary goal is to facilitate more movement within the EU. Since Greece plans to give more leeway to those who have this certificate, others may want to join the agreement. Citizens who received their vaccines in June will be the first to get their certificates, thus Europe’s digital COVID certificate initiative is set to launch next week. The Foreign Affairs Minister urged eligible Greeks to get vaccinated for the certificate initiative to succeed; however, the legal framework for these certificates is complex and may take a bit of time. The European Parliament endorsed the legal framework for COVID-19 certificates on June 9. Digital certificates will serve as evidence that the person has been vaccinated, received a negative test result accurate for the past 72 hours, or recovered from COVID-19. The certificates will cover the EU and EEA countries and Rodrigues and the Faroe Islands and will be displayed in English and the targeted countries’ official languages. EU citizens and citizens from third-country nationals living in the Union who have received the vaccine will be eligible for certificates. Several EU states, such as Greece and the vaccination campaign, participated in trials for EUDCC technology in April. Furthermore, the goal is to mitigate barriers to standardizing, issuing, and verifying the certificates in the EU and EEA nations via this digital solution.
