ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Owners of high-energy breeds must face the facts. High-energy dogs require mental and physical exertion, and obedience exercises are essential for all dogs. Such basic behaviors are necessary for a happy pet. These behaviors include sit, go, stay, come and leave it. K9s can be taught optimal behavior using the aforementioned exercises. This will improve their confidence and provide them with mental stimulation. It builds a bond between the dog and the trainer.

SUMMARY   Reviews Summary

Optimal K9 received high commendations in several client reviews. Positive results and transformations were experienced, with immediate behavioral improvements in dogs that had issues, with others commending both trainers, Ben and Davy. Some clients had customized, deeply involving and participatory sessions that also included support for the dog owners. The board and train program was a career highlight for some, with good communication providing updates concerning their puppy's progress. Trainers' patience, training experience, and capability in giving directions helped clients be hands-on in training their pets. It also ensured they continued the training at home. Immediate and long-term improvements, like off-leash control, obedience, and attentiveness, were noted by clients. All clients had very positive training experiences and recommended the company for solutions to their canine's behavioral problems.

My dogs Ellie (10 month female frenchie) and Cody (6 year long hair chihuahua mix) each lost significant amount of weight while at this Optimal K9 board and train. Cody was 17,6 lbs and came back 12.2 lbs. Ellie was 19 lbs and came back 13.4 lbs, skin and bones, with all ribs and backbone showing like a homeless dog. The trainer was sick during the training, I barely got any updates as I was told I would get and paid extra money for, when I brought it up, owner got very defensive. Scared to ask for anymore updates, scared they would take it out on my dogs. The dogs stayed in their crates most of the time. The dogs both came home absolutely filthy muddy and very frail. The bring home session at my house was worthless! DeAnthony just kept zapping Cody because he would not do what he said, after all the training. I stopped it and Ellie was so frail, skin and bones with back legs shaking like it took all she had to stand, so pitiful. Ellie was so dehydrated she went to the big water bowl first thing and drink water 10 minutes straight until I made her stop and then she wanted more. The simply things I wanted addressed and talked to Benjamin about before agreeing did not even get accomplished ! I paid $2850 for what I read and was told they would work through and my dogs would be like new dogs when they come home. I totally threw that money down a black hole, but even worse I feel as if both of my little dogs were abused during their stay, both physical and mentally, not to mention starved. The trainer also told me he was in process of moving and he wouldn't be training dogs any more, quote "just not my thing". 1. Cody still barks goes crazy at doorbell no matter what I say. 2. I wanted Cody socialized with other dogs or people so he would be nicer when we go camping. I was told that didn’t happen. Trained was sick. Bottom line, I DO NOT recommend this Optimal K9 Board and Train to anyone unless you want your dog abused physically and mentally.
Do not EVER hire these people. I took my Siberian Husky and my German Shepherd to board and train there. Every time I tried to get an update from them, it was hours later that I would get one. They were always offsite with other clients. My dogs spent the majority of their time in their kennels. After 2 days of having them, they killed my German Shepherd after taking my dogs on a walk in 100+ weather, not giving enough water, didn’t cool them down, and putting them back in a kennel. They left and came back to my dog dead. From the time she was put in a kennel, to the time her necropsy was done, she was never outside nor in anything but a controlled setting- her body was still 104.2 degrees. They got away with this because the vet who did the necropsy put that the only other explanation other than heat stroke was a prolonged seizure that she was not prone to and had a clean bill of health prior to them taking my dogs for training. They pro rated me and kept the money for 3 days of training- though it was 3 days of being traumatized. My husky would not go outside for weeks. I have abstained from writing this review due to a criminal case against them. Please- if you love your dog- do NOT hire Benjamin or Davy.
