University Christian Church was born almost before there was a Texas Christian University. This “university church” was established in 1873, and the historical relationship between the church and the university illuminated the greater lifespan of the university, a reflection of the history of the city of Fort Worth and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). University Church is one of the prominent local congregations of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We as a church can make courageous spaces together where we can be fully present with each other on our journey, showing up and being open. We need these brave spaces as a way to do the discernment work to discover what God has called us to as individuals as well as a faith community. We commit to our discipleship and worship. We answer with thanksgiving to God's blessings. We give and practice an abundance mindset in response to God's calling for our lives. Giving is not limited to our financial resources. We give back to God our spiritual gifts and talents. Jesus’ compassion is what drives us to give of ourselves, as we understand from the scriptures on community and ministry. We will lovingly sacrifice and share the vulnerability of faith with those around them. We can spread that compassion throughout the world.

Feedback for the church is optimistic. People who attended UCC as children are proud of their baptisms and upbringings, leading them to view the venue as a place close to their hearts. The venue is beautiful and attractive, and guests are warmly greeted by congregants. The church community promotes inclusivity, open-mindedness, and love, seeking to answer difficult questions about service and worship. Despite having a “high church” atmosphere, the author appreciates how the church offers a relaxing and meditative setting to think about life’s possibilities and purposes. The church is depicted as a permitter of doubt and curiosity, unlike most that prescribe solutions and conventions. UCC is also known for its participation in community programs and music that includes other arts. There is a new pastor who has improved the church’s service by taking it online and improving their blessings and hospitality. This has made it easier for TCU students with limited time. The diversity, dignity, and love at UCC earn it a spot in many congregants’ hearts.
