Grandma's House Childcare Center

Grandma's House Child Care and West Oaks Pre-School have been serving West Houston's West Oaks and Katy communities since 1984. The school has been offering childcare that helps with academic and social skills for children aged 2 months to 5 years. Each child at Grandma's House is treated as an individual with a unique growth curve. The center offers a secure, loving environment where children can grow cognitively, socially, and physically at their own pace. Young children learn best by exploring their surroundings, testing, and observing others. Preschool classrooms at Grandma's House Child Care Center may be enrolled by children who have reached the age of three years and are toilet-trained. Our classroom's pre-kindergarten readiness is promoted with the curriculum of Scholastic resources and the Frog Street Press. Handwriting Without Tears is also taught to the children in spring. This is an integrated program designed to give children a head start on the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, which is used during our Pre-K program. After a partnership with Alief ISD, the preschool classrooms are well equipped with furniture, toys, and other useful learning resources and materials. The furniture and other items in the classroom are built with child safety as a priority. The rotation centers have science, listening, and handwriting (including Handwriting Without Tears) stations where children learn in a group setting around the table. Alief ISD limits the use of technology to school years. They also have iPad games that can be used to help children practice school concepts. However, the use of iPad-based learning games is limited in preschool children's classes to allow them to concentrate more on the teacher and other children.
