South Texas College of Law Houston was established in 1923 when the local YMCA, which was responsible for drafting the constitution, decided to implement the provision concerning education. The YMCA had a proposal to establish a law school that would offer night classes for the city's working professionals. The school's first class consisted of 49 students, and they studied in the evenings. The facility allowed the students to maintain their day jobs as they pursued a legal education. Our long tradition of preparing students for careers has made South Texas College of Law Houston a recognized preeminent leader in legal education and career preparation for nearly a century. South Texas College of Law Houston is situated in downtown Houston, close to the city's major corporations, law firms, and courthouses. Our strategic location near these institutions ensures that our students have the competence and connections to pursue a career in law. South Texas College of Law Houston offers various options for students to receive a high-quality legal education. Its range of student-centered options has prepared our graduates for distinguished service in their communities and the legal profession.
