Edward Jones - Financial Advisor: John V Lerma My immediate ancestor was born during the Great Depression. To feed his family, this 13-year-old boy would polish shoes in the morning and evening. Even though he was a boy of only 13 years, he still had hopes and dreams. The Depression was where my Grandfather obtained his wisdom and creativity. His humor and wisdom were priceless, especially in financial matters. His wisdom and humor would have him say that "Money comes only from one place ....work!" He would also ask: "Does your father know the best place to take money To work?" My grandfather taught me how to make a living and how to spend it. He would ask me every day of my childhood, at six years, to ask me questions. If I wanted ice cream, he would quiz me every day. If I wanted to go and play outside, he would say that you could only go if you could say and ask. When prompted, my answer was always "save, spend and give." It's the advice I've lived by for the past 42 years of my life: save what you can, spend on what you need and give back by helping others. This lesson from Grandfather has been one of my greatest gifts to my children. My clients trust me to advise them because I am a long-term investor with critical goals. Our first initiative is to recognize each client's values and goals by listening to them.
