Randall Lake Art, a company founded by Randall Lake in 1947 in California, specializes in realistic portraiture and figure painting. From his Salt Lake City studio, Randall is a realistic portraitist and figure painter and also creates beautiful landscapes and still life. He has a home studio in Spring City, Utah, and has established studios in locations including California and Europe. Randall Lake has educational and art opportunities. Lake majored in French during the 1968 Sorbonne riots. Lake continued his studies on the left bank with Claude Schurr at the Acedemie Julian. The University of Colorado at Boulder awarded Lake an English degree Cum Laude. In 1972, he began studying with Gustave Singier at the Ecole National Superieure des Beaux Arts. Lake studied printmaking in Paris with S.W. Hayter at the Atelier 17 and was a student of Alvin Gittin at the Paris American Academy. Lake, a graduate from the University of Utah (MFA 1977) and one of Alvin Gittin's most diligent and talented students, was also a visiting faculty member of the Department of Art Studio at the University of Utah. Randall Lake is a 21st-century painter inspired by the 19th-century realism movement. He believes that "I paint from life. I don't like working with photographs, because they are so static, and the image doesn't change. You end up just copying it, rather than understanding the subject." Location painting establishes a chemical urgency and a need to be correct. It also allows you to attempt to capture the moment and to distinguish what's important. Randall Lake's works are in local and national collections.
