My approach to my work is minimalistic, creating a modern feel that emphasizes the simplicity of beauty. This way, the concept of liminal space gets explored. I explore the space between image and concept, art and craft and rules, science and intuition. Crafts are highly codified. Glass is a good example. If you do not follow the rules, your work is lost. Yet it can also be the place where boundaries and rules are pushed. In the same way, science is that way, too. This applies to glass physics, but also genetics, chemistry, and biology. In science, intuition is an important part of a regulated and codified world. Rules are often broken and boundaries challenged. However, this artistic exploration has an abstraction element, as this is the theme of my work. It's a literal abstract that often has an abstract starting point that I encode and then translate to pure material, pure color, and pure form. You could visually explain the experience of being at a hospital. It is a hospital. I first identify its visual and emotional codes: antiseptic and green. Too cold. A place for fear, pain and healing. Heavy metals, cleaners. Bright, solarized and washed out. Then I translate this code into an abstract code of color and form within the parameters set by the physics in glass.
