Salt Lake Arts Academy (SLArts) was founded by parents and educators in 2003 to serve grades 5-8 as one of Utah's first charter schools. The founders hoped to use art to engage and inspire their children and teach them how to use their city's abundant resources. Students at the Salt Lake Arts Academy are chosen through the lottery and are not affiliated with any other school district. But we work within the boundaries of the Common Core and the associated testing. The school is recognized by the State and is a member of the Utah State Charter School Association. The school is fully accredited, and its accreditation was recently renewed for 2018-19 school year by Advance-ED. The school is governed by a volunteer governing board, which is regulated by their bylaws. The governing board sets the policy, evaluates and hires the principal. The board also employs and assesses the business director. The board has also ensured compliance with federal and state accountability requirements, especially in testing and financial areas. Music, Visual Art, and Drama are three major arts disciplines taught by four full-time instructors at Salt Lake Arts Academy. These departments provide the basic art programs each day, and each student receives at least one hour of daily arts instruction. A dedication to demonstrating academic proficiency and artistic accomplishment results in a very high level of student success. The outcomes reinforce and complement the school's ability to foster and inspire these skills. Students leave SLArts prepared to succeed in their high schools and beyond, as culturally competent, academically successful lifelong learners. Central to SLArts' mission are the values that the school encourages, lives, and celebrates. Salt Lake Arts Academy is building for the and confident creators of their future, students who use their academic and artistic tools to facilitate their and their communities.

The reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Both the children and the parents see Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts as a haven of support and growth. This school was represented as a school that solely operates through the art of kindness and respect. This is said to be the language that prevails in the school environment. Multiple families are thankful for the school’s commitment to upholding good academic and artistic curriculums immersing their children in a world of diverse artistry. There is an outstanding blend of academic rigor and arts learning, teaching to encourage and foster careers in the arts. The schools that run arts-based programs are hard to find. A family that has a passion for arts and community would find this school beneficial. The following highlights the most interesting comments we have received.
