About this business
In Christmas 2006, Alex embraced his dog journey when he was gifted Rocky, a boxer, from a friend. Rocky was cute, friendly, and fearful which made him very aggressive. He was a source of affection and joy in the house but turned into an anxious and aggressive side on walks. After forming a bond with Rocky, Alex saw something in the dog's eyes that inspired him to dig deeper into finding out what could trigger his aggressive actions. Alex understood Rocky's life story which helped in identifying the source of his aggression and calming him. The success of this rehabilitation program triggered Alex to be a Dog Behavior Modification Trainer. After graduating, Alex learned under Ian Dunbar, Patricia McConnell, Jean Donaldson, and many more behaviorists and experienced dog trainers. Before launching The Canine Mind in 2014, Alex worked as a dog trainer for three years at PetSmart, Inc. in the San Francisco Bay Area. Canine Mind was formed to inform pet owners about their dog's thought process. Alex aimed to increase the relationship between owners and dogs and this analysis was essential for them to obtain free obedience. After success in the Bay Area, Alex and Melody moved back to Melody's hometown of Salt Lake City in Utah due to its safety and proximity to hiking trails. Each dog has a unique combination of experiences, genetics, and innate characteristics that cause them to behave in the real world. We at the canine mind offer dog behavior consultation services for 15-20 minutes. We offer both in-person and phone consultations for the convenience of our clients. We want to understand your dog better and assist in achieving your training goals.
