HRSD was formed to serve the Hampton Roads area. Mission: treatment and public health protection. We return high quality effluent to preserve our water ecosystems. The HRSD team works diligently to achieve our future generations' vision. SWIFT, Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (HRSD), is HRSD's most recent water treatment innovation. SWIFT employs highly treated water, which would otherwise be discharged into the James, York, or Elizabeth rivers. Using advanced water treatment, it is ensured that it meets the standards for drinking water. Potomac Aquifer is loaded using SWIFT Water which has the largest water source for the area. SWIFT Research Center Suffolk has opened and is replenishing Potomac Aquifer daily with 1 million gallons of SWIFT water.
