Founding Horace Mann, Antioch's educator & abolitionist He founded Antioch in 1852 as his first president. Mann & colleagues sought a school where students could "seek a better world." Antioch strives for co-educational, non-sectarian pathways to progress and innovation-currently envisioned from the start. When Co-op learning was introduced in the 1920's, President Arthur E. Morgan utilized it, and co-op education & practice were integrated with the co-op curriculum. Higher education currently recognizes their "Experiential Learning" programs. It has been a critical learning structure in every study at Antioch for many years.
