ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Anna is the brains and brawn behind Pretty Parlor. As a klutzy, sparkly child who loved beauty, Doris Day, Cher, and The Brady Bunch fashion, Anna could hardly contain herself. Anna’s mom, Barb, grew up working in her family’s St. Paul tailor shop, where she learned the secrets of sewing and restoring vintage clothes. Anna’s passion for working with old things began with Barb’s passion for making old things new again. Anna had a habit of changing her clothes at least three times a day and reorganizing her Barbie’s closet, often even as a kindergartener. Her dreams of buying a wardrobe of their sales items at Expit haunted her as a kid. She learned the value of shopping and working in retail from middle school, and when she got a job at Contempo Casuals in high school, she felt that window displays embodied self-expression and creativity. After college, Anna started collecting curated or themed wardrobes full of fantastic, retro, and colorful clothing. She played in many Seattle bands and dressed in fantastic clothes that matched the music. The retro 60’s style of Nana Bao and her Bossa Boys, synced with their half-serious, semi-hallucinogenic act. Tap Explosion’s retired-Vegas-showgirl garb – sequins, plumes, high kicks – was one of Anna’s favorites. This is all Anna Banana’s fault. Friends started asking for loans from Anna’s impressive walk-in closet, and that’s how Anna Banana became an entrepreneur. Pretty Parlor was born in 2001, and Anna abandoned her job as Nordstrom’s Art Director to start a new chapter. You can now find Anna scouring the best fabrics, dazzling at night with her finds, the glittering heart of a multicolored, imaginative world.
