ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Seattle Central College has been educating future generations for five decades. We offer the knowledge and skills that create more satisfying lives and stronger communities. Seattle Central College was founded on July 1, 1966, as Seattle Community College, the 19th college in Washington State. The city urgently needed local career and affordable education. The college was created to serve that need. People no longer had to drive to Everett or Bremerton, or attend other schools outside the city. Our official name is now "Seattle Colleges", reflecting our mission to create inclusive and dynamic institutional learning and experience for students. We are a comprehensive network of learning communities incorporating Seattle Vocational Institute, the Seattle Maritime Academy, and the Seattle Central College, which offers 93 degree and certificate options. Our rigorous programs include bachelor's degrees, continuing education, professional and technical programs, academic transfer, ESL, and ongoing training for businesses and professionals. We collaborate with industry partners so that our programs reflect current workplace demands and student goals, ensuring that their credentials are immediately related to the job market. Our university culture has been acknowledged as a best practice. Our schools are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Every student is supported, respected, and challenged to achieve their goals. Due to our work, many students of color and other historically marginalized groups have successfully completed their studies here.
