Hickory Hill Academy fosters children's development by providing a safe and supportive environment. Teachers are supportive throughout, encouraging children to explore, satisfy their curiosity, and meet their needs. This promotes self-esteem, self-confidence, and the desire to continue the journey of learning throughout life. Children are asked during their daily activities to reflect on how their actions will affect other individuals and the community around them. This is achieved by emphasizing character and empathy. The qualities that make a good teacher at HHA are the ability to communicate with children, parents, and colleagues, creativity, patience, flexibility, and sensitivity to the child's needs and feelings. At HHA, we believe that the community, teachers, and students all work together to build a caring environment that makes a difference. HHA teachers have the expertise required to be successful teachers based on either a degree in education or equivalent experience working with children. HHA teachers typically hold a bachelor's or master's degree in education, early childhood, elementary, or related fields. All of our teachers and staff have completed the coursework required to fulfill the State of Wisconsin's requirements for young child care and the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation requirements for hiring. Each professional is required to maintain their expertise. Staff may maintain their professional abilities by attending annual conferences, workshops, courses, and networking with other teachers.
