Pop! Group Show: Three Milwaukee Women in Craft meets POP-Ups & Group Shows Milwaukee women, who have met in the maker community, rarely showcase their work in galleries. Most women crafters create for craft markets and craft shows. This show will highlight the work of three female artists who found one another in the local maker scene. Their design can challenge the craft-art boundary. This show seeks to show how these women can make their craft norms while pushing at the edges. Allie Fritsch: One Milwaukee Glass-blower’s Pandemic Project Allie Fritsch is a stained glass artist from Milwaukee, WI. This artist’s journey, like the art of glass cutting, has been long and winding. Allie fell in love with glass when she was in high school. She joined the school's stained-glass class after her friend recommended asking the teacher to join. At school, Allie got to create suncatchers and ornaments. Glass cutting is not only time-consuming: it is also hard to move when one is at school. Allie put away her glass cutter when she went to college. She never thought they would ever meet again. The glass cutter moved to a corner in her room, where it remained until she started the coolAFglass. Allie put it in a drawer in the upper left cabinet when she packed her room for college. However, she found it in the lower right drawer when she came back a year later. It was just a few months after the pandemic, still, and Allie was stuck in her apartment at college. She looked through the things she had left in her apartment, and seeing the glass cutter was a nightmare: Allie could vividly remember the feeling of opening the box and inhaling the scent of the leftover glass from four or five years ago. Allie continues to experiment with different types of transparency, colors, and textures in her ever-evolving designs. She likes to make custom pieces and designs. Her emotions drive the creations.
