About this business

Client Testimonials: Emma went above and beyond and made our first home buying adventure an easy and enjoyable process. A massive thanks to all involved. Second client: I had an excellent experience with Emma Cowey from Wightons Lawyers. She was very professional, thorough, and incredibly responsive. The communication was outstanding through the process, and she made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommended. Third client: Outstanding service. Efficient and courteous. I have been a customer for a long time and will be for many more. I have recommended several people to them, and their feedback to me was the same efficiency and accuracy and accountability. Please note that I am trying to find a different lawyer for personal reasons. On the downside, if I could give no stars, I would. I was told to ring Wightons Lawyers by the ex husband, who recently became their client, to find out why they put a caveat on my house in relation to him. I did not even know what a caveat was. I rang them and asked them what a caveat was and why they needed to put it on my house. It was put on my behalf, and I knew nothing about it until my builder mentioned it by chance. Instead of a simple explanation, I was heinously abused and threatened by the head lawyer’s PA. She claimed to have read my messages to my abusive ex husband, out of context and without any knowledge of my side of the story, then proceeded to scream at me how disgusting she was and how they were going to take my children off me in court, as they were currently planning. We had literally just started legal proceedings so I was so confused and shaken. She then accused me of looking up their client’s Facebook and things, which I had not said anything about, asking about the caveat. This from a firm who claims to help those who are victims of domestic violence. Anything taken out of context can be manipulated to accomplish a false narrative, and abusers are especially good at doing this, which anyone working in this field surely knows. I quickly hung up... Sue, Lauren, and their support staff at Wightons Lawyers have been amazing during the last 18 months. Professionalism, legal knowledge, and compassion are qualities synonymous with Wightons. I have recommended them to anyone starting their legal journey. Anthony and the team have been a big help in dealing with our loan and guarantee documents. Anthony is very professional, friendly, and prompt at responding. Highly recommend and will keep using your services in the future :)! Alannah & Mitch Our experience with Wightons Lawyers in particular Jesse was excellent. Jesse was extremely professional and kept us up to date with the progress of the Estate at all times. User 5 star review The third time was a charm! Navigating a complex system with a tight budget and time frame is stressful. It took using two other firms before I finally found a state of calmness with Lauren at Wightons Lawyers. I felt informed, comfortable, and confident in what initially felt overwhelming. She made a late-night call after other client court sessions, reducing stress. Lauren does an awesome job managing the big picture and micro details. It is the first firm where I truly felt heard and trusted. User 5 star review I first contacted Wightons Lawyers in November 2023 and had a phone meeting with Ben McLean (a director). After explaining the situation to Ben and realising he had only a few months before sued the same company I needed legal representation with it all seemed positive. It was agreed I would discuss with my partner and if we wanted to proceed with Ben representing us I would email him the following day along with documents and a time line of my legal matter. I did this and Ben responded saying he had received the email and documents and CC'd his assistant into the e-mail chain. Then Wightons Lawyers went silent and essentially ghosted us. over the past 3 months I have attempted to follow them up multiple times via phone and email. Emails don't get responded to, the receptionists either put me through to Ben or his assistants voicemail OR just say hes busy but we will send him an email and he will definitely call you back - but never does. 2 weeks ago I managed to speak with his assistant who told me he has just been so busy but he is almost finished the letter of demand and she would make sure the following week I was updated on the matter. I told her that sounds strange as there has been no agreement between us and Wightons nor have we been sent an invoice to make payment but she glossed over it. I called again this week to discuss what she said would be happening the week before, conveniently Ben and his assistant were busy but reception assured they would call me back. They still have not. I am not sure why this law firm is ghosting us but I find the dealing with them extremely unprofessional and believe others considering using this firm as representation should seriously reconsider this and seek an alternate representative. Legal matters are stressful enough, when the lawyer you hire can't be bothered it makes it so much worse.
