About this business

Doogue + George Defence Lawyers was established by Bill Doogue, the firm's current director, in 1995. He began as a criminal lawyer with the Aboriginal Legal Service but left in the early 1990s to set up a firm that exclusively practices criminal law. The first office was set up in Broadmeadows in 1995, followed by another in Melbourne CBD in 2001 and another in Heidelberg in 2008. Additionally, Andrew George was running a successful firm, Andrew George Solicitors. They were handling a broad range of criminal law cases. In February 2013, the two firms merged. The firm has merged with two other law firms - Lethbridges Barristers and Solicitors' in 2021 and Furstenberg Law in 2024. These firms had long histories of running criminal law cases very well and handling the most complex criminal litigation. Taken together, all these parts make up a whole that is a firm with vast experience and knowledge to help clients. Since its founding, Doogue + George has been handling all kinds of cases - over 47,000 prosecutions and 430 jury trials to date. This includes high profile cases like that of Abdul Nacer Benbrika in the first major terrorism trial in Australia. The firm has acted for many politicians, Federal and State members. The government has also engaged the firm for advice or representation: the firm has represented the former Governor General of Australia and been involved in two cases overseas where allegations were made about attempted regime change. Clients come to us in the end, however, because we are a safe pair of hands. We will look after your case and we are on your side.
