Since 1976, we have held certain strong constants. Art should not be enigmatic or costly. In 1976, we opened our doors. We are now the oldest art dealer in the Big City. We carry both historical and contemporary works, making our gallery one of the few in Canada. Our aim has always been to locate and present the top examples of Canadian paintings, drawings, and sculptures. We pursue excellence, whether a work was made in 1890 or now. Who Are We? If you don't know who we are, we invite you in for a coffee. And a cookie. We are not photocopies. A gallery, we think, should not be a museum. Galleries should be pleasant spaces to visit. For someone new to the art world, it can be daunting. We want you to relish the feeling of walking around Masters. Should you be new ground, we invite you to look at the art and read about it and to ask many questions. We prefer you to know that good art does not have to cost a fortune. Nonetheless, taking a painting home spontaneously could be costly. Building a collection takes time and effort. Sometimes, you may also wish to plan or seek help. We can assist. We advise our customers on how to invest their money. Price relates to quality. Judging early art is straightforward. As time passes, each artist's role in Canadian culture is assessed by their position in Canadian history. Subject matter, condition, and date dictate an item's worth. Contemporary art is a personal choice. Sometimes, a work of art will not 'click' after a period. In certain galleries, this is your problem. At Masters, we recommend giving your works a test run.
