I was deeply disappointed by Farouk's handling of my closing file as my lawyer. With less than 30 days left until my closing date, he abruptly cancelled on me, citing the fact that my mortgage was not with a major bank as the reason. When I asked why would this affect his ability to assist me, his response was that it required significant amount of work and time, and he is short on staff. What frustrated me even more was the fact that he failed to ask about this crucial detail from the beginning or inform me that his firm only handles files that close with major banks. This lack of foresight and communication on his part left me scrambling to find a new lawyer at such short notice, causing unnecessary stress and anxiety. Farouk's responses to my emails were very unprofessional. His Poor communication skills and his dismissive attitude only added to my frustration. I sent him a detailed email expressing my frustration after he cancelled on me and his only response was “ What is a good time to call you?” He then proceeded to call me over and over again ignoring my request to only communicate through email. In fairness, I must mention that Farouk did recommend another lawyer for me to turn to that I already was aware of and was referred to by the Builder and my agent. He then promised to take care of the $150 extra fee charged by the builders lawyer for switching lawyers. Only to later discover that it wasn’t paid to the lawyer and I was responsible to pay it. In conclusion, I feel compelled to write this review to caution others about the level of service they can expect when working with Farouk. His failure to inquire about my mortgage details and subsequent last-minute cancellation, coupled with his unprofessional responses, left me feeling let down and unsupported. I strongly advise considering alternative options when seeking legal assistance to avoid a similar experience.
