Edmonton-native Brock Kryton grew up in this area. The photographer began shooting film at the age of 15. He was the first freshman at his high school to win the McBain Camera Graphic Arts Awards for Proficiency in Graphic Arts, which are usually awarded to graduating students. Kryton began serving Western Canada by selling prints of equestrian competition participants at Western and English equestrian contests at the age of 19. The following year, he was requested to photograph the national competition for trail riding and endurance riding in Sundre, Alberta. This project enriched his abilities and took him to MacEwan University to study Design Studies with a concentration in photography after he graduated from high school. He widened his work and improved his craft over school.
