Vanguard College, formerly the Canadian Northwest Bible Institute (CNBI), traces its roots back to October 1946. It became the ministerial and theological training school for Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada Alberta & Northwest Territories in Edmonton. Dr Rev D.N. Buntain hosted classes inside Edmonton's Central Pentecostal Tabernacle on Jasper Avenue. The college university was rebranded as the Northwest Bible College in 1965. By 1960, almost a hundred students were studying at NBC. First Steps for Growth In 1975, the college acquired its first property, a 12,000-sq.-foot two-story building located on 106 Avenue and 116 Street. That structure was named the D.N. Buntain Heritage House. The building was shared by staff and faculty offices, student life, classrooms, and the library. In 2019, the College's Board of Directors updated its mission as "to create and mobilize spirit empowered leaders to be fruitful and faithful in God’s mission." The College's core values were also refreshed, and a bold new vision statement was launched. Vanguard College Online has since become IBOLT (the College's online campus) to reflect on-campus and online program integration. This gives students more flexibility to study. Seventy-Five Years of Success In April 2022, Vanguard College celebrated its 75th anniversary. In 1946, Dr D.N. Buntain founded the College. The College has invested in people whom God has used to transform ministries and services in Alberta, Canada, and worldwide. The College's mission has been to equip ministers for service. Seventy-five years of legacy!

Vanguard College reviews point towards a welcoming community with opportunities for in-depth study and spiritual reinforcement. Many students praised the spiritual life on campus, the friendly atmosphere and the excellent professors. The institution's commitment to being innovative is commendable and staff are caring and friendly. Studies are adversely impacted by the openness of the atmosphere and the sense of community. Many students have been blessed by the experience, with some feeling that their entire lives have been changed. This school is recommended for anyone looking to grow in their faith or have a career in ministry. It is worth the effort and the risk of graduation and campus life.
