Richard F. Fowler has significant criminal law experience. In British Columbia and the Yukon, Richard represents clients at all levels of Court. He has considerable experience with jury and non-jury trials in both jurisdictions. Richard has represented clients on charges of murder, manslaughter, and sexual offences. Richard also has substantial experience in less common allegations, such as fraud, dangerous offender hearings, and serious driving offenses. He is a successful appealer in the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Court of Appeal in the Yukon. He has appeared before the Review Board in British Columbia. The Review Board assesses the mental health needs of those who are not necessarily criminally guilty or unfit for trial. Richard represents his clients in B.C. and Yukon courts. He also does Youth Court. Richard is a skilled member of a team that works on complex, large-scale cases. He was co-counsel for David Gibbons Q.C. and supervised a team that represented one of the Air India accused. He also was a key consultant to the defense upon the successful defense of ex-B.C. Premier Glen Clark was convicted of fraud and breach of trust. Richard is now on the Trial Lawyer's Association of British Columbia's Board of Governors. He is a Director of the Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers. He was also a director of the BC Association of Legal Aid Lawyers and the Treasurer of the Western Front Foundation. Richard represented the CCCDL in 2016 before the House of Commons Standing Committees on Justice and Human Rights. He talked on issues of access to Legal Aid and Medical Assistance for Dying.
