About this business
Xchanges Artists' Gallery & Studios and our friends are grateful for the opportunity to create and present our work in unceded Coast Salish territory, which is situated on traditional Coast Salish territories of Esquimalt and Songhees Nations and the Lkwungen-speaking peoples. Together, as neighbors and close friends, we are committed to fostering a culture where the truth can be spoken, and concerns can be acknowledged. In all our relationships and activities, we recognize and honor our traditional host, and we cultivate and sustain an inclusive and creative spirit. Artists never work alone. More than art is involved. Being an artist involves finding a good studio at a reasonable price, sharpening your skills and techniques, displaying your work, and interacting with other artists. Finding a supportive community is crucial to the sustenance of an art practice. Welcome to Xchanges Gallery & Studios, the longest-standing artist-run center in Canada.
Xchanges was more than 50 years in the making. The spirit behind Xchanges all started over 50 years ago. The concept for Xchanges developed from a group of artists grappling with the challenges of working in an artistic environment. Xchanges still exists today because it deals with the many challenges facing artists. This spirit has allowed us to keep our vision and structure together over many changes. Xchanges is a registered charitable organization with a non-profit mandate. It supports the community by showcasing its galleries and artists and assisting its creative individuals. The mandate of Xchanges is spelled out in the articles of incorporation.
