ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Aboriginal Funeral Chapel (Wpg) Ltd was formed in the year 1991 in Winnipeg to address the requirements of the Aboriginal community in Winnipeg.  It is a trusted funeral service for more than sixty First Nation Bands in Manitoba and Saskatchewan today. The company is involved in various traditions that give comfort to the dead and helps the grieving families far away. The company plans and assists the grieving families in celebrating the life of loved ones who have passed away. Our first concern is to support the dead. We also support the tradition that gives relief from the stress of handling them. We provide transportation for those who need it to remote locations for traditional Winnipeg services if necessary. Understanding tradition and culture during times of loss is paramount for us. We are also proud to have the expertise and flexibility needed for each community to allow them to continue with this by creating a healthy atmosphere that allows them to cope with the loss. This proves that it’s not easy to adjust to a loss of a near and dear person. We have guitars and elders who know how to play them, as we encourage families to bring their musical instruments and songs as this is part of their native culture. Smudge boxes are also available, including sweetgrass, tobacco, and cedar. Burial clothes such is suits, tuxedos, and handmade white dresses can be provided upon request. We can also help you if you lost a child as a parent. Burial items, such as headstones, grave markers, and other things used for remembering the dead, are available in our selection room. Peter Kilcollins became the owner and manager of Aboriginal Funeral Chapel after the demise of Peter Kilcollins in 2005.
