ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Asper School of Business Introduction: I.H. The Asper School of Business is an internationally acclaimed business institution established in 1937. The university exposes aspiring managers to a world-class business education that gears them toward economic and social prosperity. Over time, it has spread its wings in business education excellence to the global front. Therefore, the school has gained its reputation as a world-class business school for more than eight decades. The institution trains leaders and innovators to directly contribute to economic development and social prosperity in Manitoba and the world. Biography and Philanthropy: Israel Harold Asper was a Manitoba favorite son born in Minnedosa. His successful career as a tax lawyer, businessman, broadcaster, and philanthropist laid the foundation for the university. Asper and his children have made multimillion donations to several institutions, including local hospitals, parks, theatres, Jewish cultural centers, and universities. Asper was the most generous individual donor to the university ("In memoriam I.H. Asper", 2003, para. 2). In 1999, Asper donated $2 million to the university for the Asper Chair of International Business and Trade Law. The university’s Asper Centre of Entrepreneurship was created, and in 2000, the Former Faculty of Management was renamed the I.H. Asper School of Business in honor of Asper, who referred to it as the most prestigious recognition he ever got. Asper also supported programs in Israel, Canada, and the Jewish-Canadian community. He was a leader in the efforts to create a Canadian Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg.
