Jensen Nursery & Garden Centre

Kurt Jensen created Jensen Nursery and Landscaping Ltd in 1966, after moving to Canada with Elsie from Denmark in 1957. The company began from their River Heights property which soon became a residential and commercial landscape. They then purchased a 1 acre of land on McGillivray Boulevard after outgrowing the space in their home. They acquired the property in 1971 to expand their operations. They started by renting the farmhouse and a shed to be used as a sales office. By the late 1970's, retail business was booming, the Jensen farmhouse was their new showroom and sales office. During the next twenty years, the garden centre provided service to the southern end of the city. The area was a hub for both commercial and residential growth. By the end of the 1990's, the area was so developed that it required a larger facility to serve the expanded community. In 1999, a new greenhouse and garden centre were built to serve the expanded community. Tammy, Kurt, and Elsie's daughter, had joined in the business by this time. The business expanded and grew after the new establishment. A new three-acre garden centre was opened along with the one-acre garden center in the spring of 2005. Jensen's Garden Centre has become one of Winnipeg and surrounding area's best greenhouse, garden centre and landscaping businesses. More space at new location means better selection of shrubs, trees and perennials and over three times the space available for gardening and giftware.
