About this business

There has been a focus on personal care in a home-like setting where the residents' needs are addressed, and their family and friends' lives are improved. The Home maintains an open-door policy to help the residents and their families and friends feel supported, heard, and treated compassionately. The Home's rules and management encourage a family-like setting where individualized care is delivered, and excellence is sought. Winnipeg, including the Home during tough times, has a history. The Home has supported the needy during trying times, such as the Spanish Flu outbreak, the Typhoid Epidemic, and the Winnipeg Flood. The Home was in danger of closing in the 1960s, mainly because it was old (built before 1917) and there were worries about the safety of the people there. Premier Duff Roblin was contacted, and he offered to assist. The Premier wrote to the Convalescent Hospital Board, saying he would take control of the building if the board would keep up its operations. This was a few days before the December 31st closure. The groundbreaking ceremony happened in March 1965 and construction began on the "new" structure (or existing) at Hugo Street North/Jessie Avenue. The finished facility was the most modern, best-equipped, and largest Personal Care Home in Manitoba. People came from around the area, including North Dakota, to visit the newly completed building.
