Glendale Secondary School

The premises of Glendale Secondary encompass a vast green space in Hamilton’s east-end vicinity near Stoney Creek. On Glendale’s west side is Viola Desmond Elementary School, and the two schools are separated from the trees only by a large park with sports fields. With an enrollment of fewer than 1,000 students, Glendale Secondary accommodates 18% of students who are English Language Learners. The student population is linguistically diverse, with over 50 languages spoken at the school, and over 50% of students do not speak English at home. The school is a composite of Grade 9-12, offers various programs to meet the changing needs of students, and provides a range of pathways in various fields for diverse preparation for career options. Glendale educational programs cater to all the students’ needs, and this ensures that every learner is attended to. The composite school includes programs in every grade and discipline, and Pathways program offerings prepare students for a variety of potential careers. Some of the expanded SHSMs for the students include a specialist in Autism, Nonprofit, Transportation, Arts & Culture, and Business. Glendale students have had a production-based learning opportunity over the years.
