We are specialists in academic representational realist art at the Ottawa Art Academy. Students learn how to draw and paint realistically. You can create anything that you imagine if you capture reality. Many of the techniques we use today are derived from art schools of the nineteenth century, including how to reproduce precise plaster casts and how to mix and perceive colors. It is not only a way to help students improve their drawing abilities, but it also helps preserve these traditional methods. The academy's philosophy is that anyone, given enough time can be a master. We offer classes for all ages and skill levels. Our classes are open to all levels of artists and age groups, from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals, retired people, teenagers entering high school, etc. The classroom may have a mixture of students but the individual instruction will still be given. It ensures that everyone receives the education they require, and is exposed to different topics. After completing a few basic projects, the project is tailored to the individual student's needs. Someone might want to improve their portrait painting skills. The student can then start working on portraits in a variety of ways, from graphite and charcoal to coloured chalks and monochrome. This will increase the student's knowledge of portraiture. It is a great way to create portfolios for university, college, or job applications. It is an entire system for painting. This system is designed to help students develop their skills through training and practice using traditional methods. It is an old-fashioned method that has been used for centuries and no longer is taught in Universities or Colleges. GBTC provides theatre, acting, and drama arts for youths throughout the entire year. The caring and enthusiastic staff at GBTC create a welcoming, warm environment that allows students to feel comfortable and ready to discover. We offer classes for children ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 14 in the fall, winter, and spring. For ages 6-14, our programs include theatre games, mime, and improvisation. We also work on simple costumes and sets, as well as a final public performance. We also have specializations in certain programs, such as mask-making and storytelling. Outdoor activities, sports, and games are included in our full-day camps, which we offer during the months of July, August, and March break. The classes we offer are a great way to develop confidence and skills in young performers. The young students (6 to 8 years old) work on basic self-presentation and drama skills using voice, dance, songs, folktales, and legends as well as costume. Students in the intermediate level (9 to 14 years old) continue their growth through unscripted, scripted, and scripted works, as well as improv and blocking. They will also learn the basic elements of character development and stage presentation. Students in the Preschool level (ages 3-5) use imaginative play, story-telling, music, and movement to improve their physical, personal, and social skills.

Brian Murphy, a saxophonist and woodwind doubler who teaches jazz, is a Humber College graduate. Brian Murphy studied under some of Canada’s best woodwind players including Pat LaBarbera Alex Dean Mark Promane Brian Lillos. Brian began his Masters degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), where he was also awarded a Graduate assistantship. Brian studied in Las Vegas with Nathan Tanouye and Phil Wigfall, both of whom have worked for Celine Dion. Brian performed with George Garzone as a student. He also worked with Marlena Shave, Joe LaBarbera and Bob Sheppard. Brian's busy schedule of performances continued even after he graduated in 2010. He began working as a part-time Adjunct professor of Jazz Woodwinds in UNLV College of Fine Arts. Brian performed with The Four Tops and The Temptations on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as Bobby Rydell, The Righteous Brothers and Matt Goss. Brian also was the first substitute Reeds 1 and 2 in Vegas! Brian doubles on clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the Show at the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops. Brian's musical theatre background includes Forbidden Bdoswad, Smokey Joes Cafe, A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum and Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Brian and his family returned to Canada with him in summer 2017 to teach in Southern Ontario.
